Proficiency Testing Scheme Available for SARS-CoV-2 Antigen and POC Testing
The external quality assessment (EQA) provider UK NEQAS has launched a new proficiency testing scheme for organizations that are testing for the SARS-CoV-2 antigen or its nucleic acid by point-of-care.
The scheme has six distributions planned for 2021/2022, with the next being dispatched on the 23rd of August.
Each distribution will consist of 4 specimens dispatched in Viral Transport Medium(VTM) and participants will be able to submit 2 sets of results if they are using two different methods.
Intended results will be published on the UK NEQAS for Microbiology secure website within three days of the closing date. Individual reports will be available on the UK NEQAS secure website approximately four weeks after the closing date of the distribution. Participants will receive an email notification from UK NEQAS to inform them that the reports are available for viewing.
UK NEQAS needed to extend the scope of its ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation and was the first EQA organization to be UKAS accredited for such a scheme.
The EQA is suitable for:
- Any test that detects SARS-CoV-2 antigen, such as lateral flow devices or other platforms.
- It is also suitable for point of care devices that test for SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid or antigen.
UK NEQAS is now in its 50th year and has so far provided EQAs for antibody testing and molecular testing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
